Google is set to take macro photography a step further with its upcoming Pixel 10 series. According to a new report from Android Headlines, the Pixel 10 lineup will offer macro functionality through both its ultra-wide and telephoto lenses, marking a rare dual-lens macro approach among smartphones.

Earlier Pixel models included macro support via the ultra-wide lens. Now, with the Pixel 10, Google is reportedly integrating macro capability into the telephoto lens as well. Based on subject distance, the device is expected to automatically switch between the ultra-wide and telephoto lenses to optimize macro shots.

This development follows a recent industry shift where smartphone brands like OnePlus and Vivo are utilizing telephoto sensors for macro capabilities. The OnePlus 13 and Vivo T4 Ultra have already adopted similar features. With Google joining the trend, macro photography is seeing renewed attention in the smartphone segment.

Google is expected to officially unveil the Pixel 10 series on August 28. However, sources suggest that each model — including the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold — could see staggered release dates.

The Pixel 10 range is anticipated to run on Google’s Tensor G5 chipset, a custom processor produced by TSMC. The transition to TSMC may lead to better heat management and battery efficiency, areas where earlier Tensor chips have underperformed.

Android 16 will be preloaded on the Pixel 10 series. On-device AI features are set to play a central role, with tools like Video Generative ML for editing, Speak-to-Tweak for voice-guided image refinements, and Sketch-to-Image, which transforms basic sketches into detailed visuals.

Reports indicate the standard Pixel 10 might include a triple-camera array for the first time, featuring a telephoto lens. The main sensor is expected to be the Samsung GN8, which is smaller than the previously used GNV sensor. Secondary sensors could be similar to those found on the Pixel 9a. Despite modest hardware, Google's AI-based image enhancements are likely to maintain high-quality photo output.

The Pixel 10 design will reportedly remain largely unchanged, continuing the flat-edge design, camera visor, and minimal bezels seen in the Pixel 9 lineup. A slight reduction in thickness is possible.

Price points are expected to remain consistent with previous generations. The Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro could start at Rs 79,999 and Rs 99,999, respectively. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold might see a more competitive price compared to its predecessor.
